Creating hundreds of local jobs to bring clean power to 25,000 homes

Sept. 9, 2020

AUSTIN, TX - RigUp is excited to support construction of the Pflugerville Solar Project, helping staff up to 350 Austin-area jobs with skilled tradesmen who have previous solar and large scale construction experience.

The Pflugerville Solar Project is owned by Recurrent Energy, a leading utility-scale solar and storage project developer. Recurrent Energy signed a Power Purchase Agreement with Austin Energy for the Pflugerville Solar Project to provide low-cost solar power to the utility’s customers for 15 years following the start of operation. The 144 MWac project is part of Austin Energy’s goal to provide cost-effective, green-energy solutions to its customers and is expected to power up to 25,000 homes.

“As someone who proudly lives in the Austin-area, I am particularly pleased to have recently broken ground on our Pflugerville Solar Project,” said Mike Arndt, General Manager of Recurrent Energy. “We look forward to responsibly constructing this project and filling many of these jobs with local workers from the Travis County area. We thank our trusted construction partners for bringing this project closer to delivering low-cost, clean electricity to Austin Energy’s customers.”

The project is expected to create long-term, permanent jobs to support the operation and maintenance of the power plant, as well as up to 350 construction jobs, with at least 50% performed by local workers. The project will also have a positive economic impact on the local community by providing tax revenues for Travis County and the Elgin ISD, which will total approximately $350 million throughout the life of the project.

“The ramping up of the construction of the Pflugerville Solar Project could not have come at a better time”, said County Commissioner Jeff Travillion. “Half of the 350 construction jobs will be local hires; our County residents who have been impacted by the recent economic downturn will have access to good jobs with low barriers of entry at a time when they are needed most."

RigUp’s hiring specialists are looking to immediately fill positions for Construction and Skilled Tradesman crews, including Electricians, Equipment Operators, Racking/Panel Installers, and General Laborers, with prior solar and large scale construction experience. RigUp has also partnered with Workforce Solutions Capital Area, which is hosting a Virtual Career Expo on September 10. Interested candidates can learn more at www.rigup.com/blog/pflugerville-solar.

“The Pflugerville Solar Project’s goals line up perfectly with what we’re all about: putting people to work,” said RigUp Head of Solar Ron Nickelson. “We’re excited to support Recurrent Energy and our industry partners in building this renewable energy solution by sourcing the vetted, highly-skilled workers they’re looking for and providing them with the training they need to get the job done on-time and on budget.”

Construction on the 950-acre Travis County site is also being supported by Signal Energy, 3B Dozer, RP Construction Services, and E Light Electric. The project is expected to be completed in early 2021.
